What actually happens during that time
After your tooth is prepared and digitally scanned, the file is sent for milling — a machine carves the crown from a solid block of zirconia to the exact shape planned from your scan. It's then stained and glazed to match your natural tooth shade, which takes additional time to get right, before a final fit check and bonding.
Why in-house milling matters for your timeline
Clinics with their own milling lab can turn a crown around in a day or two once the design is finalised, rather than sending the case out to an external lab and waiting for it to be shipped back — which is where longer waits usually come from.
When it takes longer
Multiple crowns, a full smile makeover involving many teeth, or cases combined with other treatments (like whitening beforehand, or gum reshaping) naturally take more of your visit, since each restoration needs its own shade-matching and fitting.
